International Committee on EA Standards

a|EA International Committee on EA Standards

The Association of Enterprise Architects has an International Committee on Enterprise Architecture Standards. The a|EA Standards Committee serves two directly related purposes:

   1. Develop and promote international standards on enterprise architecture; and

   2. Build, manage and expand an EA knowledgebase.

The Standards Committee currently has seven members:

  • Haiping Luo – Committe Chairperson. Data Management Coordinator, Government Printing Office, USA

  • Klaus D. Niemann – CEO of act! consulting GmbH, Germany

  • Hong Sik Kim – a|EA Korea Chapter Vice President, Seoul, South Korea

  • Ben Bovée – EA Consultant at the State Department, USA

  • Tyson Brooks – Management Consultant at BAE Systems, USA

The a|EA Standards Committee promotes the principle of openness and participation. We invite all EA professionals to participate in our effort to advance EA Body of Knowledge.

The a|EA Standards Committee has just started two projects:

AEA-A-2005-1: Building an EA Knowledge Digest

AEA-A-2005-2: Developing an Enterprise Architecture Management Guide

We are looking for participation from the EA community to bring expertise and wisdom to these projects.

AEA-A-2005-1: Building an EA Knowledge Digest

EA Knowledge Digest is a repository to store and relate knowledge items pertinent to enterprise architecture. The a|EA Standards Committee wants to use this repository to capture the wisdom and best practice in the EA field and other related fields; to share EA knowledge; and to support EA work. The EA Knowledge Digest is designed to allow answering EA questions such as "What standards are related to security architecture in what way" and "What are the principles and approaches to transform business architectures?"

Once established, the EA Knowledge Digest will be freely available to a|EA members. A limited portion of the Digest will be accessible by the general public.

The EA Knowledge Digest (EAKD) Project Team is looking for contributors and knowledge managers. The contributors provide individual knowledge items. A Knowledge Manager maintains a knowledge area in the Digest.

The EAKD Project Team welcomes EA tool vendors to showcase their tools by storing and presenting EAKD online through their tool environment.

AEA-A-2005-2: Developing an Enterprise Architecture Management Guide

The Enterprise Architecture Management Guide organizes EA knowledge and best practices along the EA management life cycle to specify what to do, how to do, and what results to produce at different EA management stages and areas. Once completed, the a|EA Standards committee seeks to establish this Guide as an a|EA Standard. The Committee will also submit the Guide to International Standards organization(s) to pursue acceptance.

This EA Management Guide will leverage entire EA community’s wisdom and expertise. The resulting Guide will present a|EA's guidance to its members on how to implement EA practice, which may be in agreement, or contrary, to external sources of EA practice implementation.

The Standards Committee invites EA practitioners and scholars to contribute to the development of the EA Management Guide. Please contact Ben Bovee or Haiping Luo if you can participate.
